Effective Telemedicine

Telemedicine is the remote diagnosis and treatment of clients by means of telecommunications technology.

Benefits of Telemedicine

  • Telemedicine increases access to care: It's beneficial for those who live far away from medical clinics and those who cannot leave their homes due to mental health challenges.

  • Telemedicine is more convenient: It saves time by eliminating the need to commute, and typically, wait times are reduced. You can have your appointment from anywhere, doing what you want to do.

  • Telemedicine decreases the cost of healthcare: There is no need for a physical building, and there are no costs associated with gas, electricity, or daycare.

  • Telemedicine increases the well-being of medical providers: It provides flexibility in scheduling, allowing for more time at home with family and reducing the risk of burnout.

Cons of Telemedicine

  • Technology challenges: Telemedicine requires reliable technology and internet access, which may not be available for all patients.

  • Lack of personal connection: Telemedicine may not provide the same level of personal connection between medical providers and patients as an in-person visit, which could affect the client-provider relationship and overall satisfaction with care.

  • Security concerns: Telemedicine may pose security risks, such as data breaches or hacking, which could compromise client confidentiality and privacy.

  • Increased difficulties for clients experiencing paranoia: Clientss who experience paranoia may find it more challenging to trust telemedicine due to concerns about the technology and privacy.

What can I do to make my telemedicine experience the most effective and meaningful?

  • Ensure a strong and reliable internet connection: Check internet speed and connection status before the appointment, have a backup plan if the internet connection is down, and be willing to speak on the phone or use your internet through a cell phone carrier. If you prefer video then we can simply reschedule the appointment

  • Have up-to-date devices: Make sure your computer, phone, camera, microphone, and speakers or headphones are up to date, as video and sound quality depend on your devices.

  • Use headphones: Using headphones can improve sound quality, help you connect better with your provider and provide more privacy.

  • Create a comfortable and private space: Find a space where you feel comfortable, but also make sure it's private and conducive to having an undivided attention. Prepare mentally before the appointment so that you can mentally be present with your provider from the start of the appointment.

Physical face to face contact with a human being is essential for our well-being.

  • If you are not getting any face to face in person contact in your day to day life, telemedicine might not be the best type of care for you.
